British Tourists Claim Resort Gave Them Food Poisoning, Turns Out They Had 109 Drinks At Dinner

Source –  Two British tourists who claim they were left ‘bed-ridden’ as a result of food poisoning actually had more than 100 drinks while on an all-inclusive holiday in Gran Canaria, according to their hotel bill. The pair, from Liverpool, attempted to sue Jet2holidays and the Gloria Palace Hotel after suffering ‘stomach cramps and severe diarrhea’ because of the resort’s buffet.

Yet investigators later discovered they had ordered 109 drinks over the course of nine days, which included cocktails, beers and whiskey shots.

Their symptoms allegedly showed up on the second day of their holiday which then ‘spoiled the rest of the holiday’. Yet during an investigation, it has been revealed that the pair continued to enjoy a number of alcoholic drinks throughout the time of their illness.

On the night of the alleged start of the illness, the pair had ordered six shots of spirits and mixers and cocktails and spirits. The drinks continued to be consumed for the rest of the holiday.

I’m calling on the Government to crack down on the food bug fraudsters.’ There has reportedly been a large spike in the number of people claiming for gastric illness while on holiday since 2013 despite sickness levels reported in resorts remaining stable. Travel trade organisation Abta blames management touts for encouraging tourists to submit dishonest claims worth thousands of pounds.

Two things; the British love to drink and hang overs are nothing to joke about. So the story seemed believable, at first. I drank Saturday and didn’t hit equilibrium until last night so it very well could have been a hangover causing their pain. Then I read a little closer.

“investigators later discovered they had ordered 109 drinks over the course of nine days”

Nine days! Let’s break it down. 109 drinks over the course of nine days divided by two people. That’s six drinks a day which equals maybe one drink and hour. Not to sound like a hardo but that’s not a lot of alcohol for a blogger vacationer. If they had Shoenice’d their drinks all in one sitting it would have been another story but they didn’t. And the fact they “enjoyed a number of cocktails” while “sick” has nothing to do with it. Everyone knows booze settles the stomach just as much as it upsets it. If the judge had any kind of brain he would rule the hotels claim erroneous and award the vacationers their money.

I guess it’s what you get for staying at an all-inclusive. In theory they sound great but in reality they’ll give you a bad case of the runs and an empty wallet. That being said, why did they send them a letter a year after the incident? Unless you’re still sick, take a hike. I’m hoping that’s why the judge threw out their claim, not because they enjoyed a few cocktails.
